Description

IL-1 refers to two proteins (IL-1α and IL-1β), which are the products of distinct genes that are recognized by the same cell surface receptors. Human IL-1β is a potent immuno-modulator that mediates a wide range of immune and inflammatory responses, including the activation of B and T cells. Pro-IL-1β is converted to its mature form through proteolytic cleavage by caspase-1 (also known as IL-1β-converting enzyme or ICE). This intracellular processing produces the mature active peptide that can be secreted and represents a key step in the inflammatory response. IL-1β  is expressed in several cell types, including monocytes, tissue macrophages, Langerhan cells, dendritic cells, T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes and natural killer cells. IL-1β plays a pathogenic role in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis among other diseases.

No, ELISA MAX™ Deluxe Sets do not come with plates. Coating Buffer and Assay Diluent (for blocking and dilutions) are included in these sets. Plates can be ordered separately (Cat No. 423501), and instructions for coating the plates are in the sets’ product manuals.
